The famous quote often attributed to John Locke says:
“Gold is immutable and indestructible, but the ideas we attach to it are where the true complexity lies.”
At its core, the quote highlights a simple but powerful reality: gold itself never changes emotionally.
It does not seek attention, validation, or meaning.
Humans are the ones who transform it into something far bigger psychologically.
Gold remains stable and physically resistant to destruction. The emotional weight attached to it, however, changes constantly depending on society, culture, fear, greed, and perception.
